An Important Message from Director of Community Security | June 2, 2020

As the protest and demonstration activity continue to increase around the country, the temperament of both peaceful demonstrators and non demonstrators walking by, or driving by a protest is increasing in hostility. Drivers not involved in demonstrations are being more aggressive with driving behavior towards peaceful demonstrators, escalating the tensions.
Members of the community who choose to participate in the demonstrations should know the leadership of that organization and their overall purpose of their demonstration. If choosing to participate in the demonstration, be aware of your surrounding area and have an exit strategy should the situation turn aggressive and violent.
The community should be aware, even a well planned protest is fluid, and plans can change quickly, as seen the past three nights in downtown Dallas.
Over 40 US cities have imposed curfews to include Dallas, which is expanding their curfew area tonight to include West Village (north of Uptown) and Trinity Groves (west side of downtown Dallas). This curfew will be in effect from 7pm to 6am until further notice. If you live in the areas affected by the curfew, you will need to have your identification with you showing your residency.
There is an active demonstration now in the core of downtown Dallas, and additional demonstrations planned for this evening.
Additional updates will be provided as this situation continues.
Should you or your organization have any other questions or feedback regarding security concerns, please contact the Community Security Initiative.

Bill Humphrey
