We are pleased to share important news with our parents of school-age children: the Texas Education Freedom Accounts (TEFA) application portal is now officially open.
This is a valuable opportunity for eligible families to apply for educational funding support, and we encourage parents to review the information carefully and submit their applications on time.
Important Deadline

Key Determination Factors for 2026-27
Texas Education Freedom Account (TEFA) awards for the 2026-27 school year will be determined through a lottery that prioritizes low-income families and students with disabilities, with funding set at 85% of the state’s average per-student expenditure (approximately $10,474). Students with specific disabilities (with an IEP) may qualify for up to $30,000.
- Award Amount: Approved students receive 85% of the estimated state and local funding per student, calculated by the TEA.
- Prioritization (If funds are limited):
- Tier 1: Students with disabilities and household income 500% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL).
- Tier 2: Households with income 200% of the FPL.
- Tier 3: Households with income between 200% and 500% of the FPL.
- Tier 4: Other applicants, with priority for those switching from public schools.
- Sibling Priority: If one child is selected, eligible siblings applying at the same time are accepted.
- Payment Structure: Funds are transferred to families in three installments: July, October, and the remaining balance before April.
- Good Standing: Participants in good standing do not need to reapply annually.
