Vizhnitz Rebbe Tells Health Minister: ‘It’s A Torah Commandment To Wear Mask’

BNEI BRAK — Health Minister Yuli Edelstein visited the Vizhnitzer Rebbe in Bnei Brak in order to update him on the situation regarding COVID-19 as well as to coordinate with him the moves being taken by the ministry to prevent an increase in infections. Edelstein was accompanied by the Vizhnitz representative in the Knesset, UTJ member Yaakov Tessler.
The rebbe asked Edelstein about the renewed lockdowns in Elad and Tiberias and expressed his concern that this might harm children’s studies. Edelstein explained that the lockdowns will not affect schools as long as they maintain the health regulations- social distancing, masks and hygiene. He added that these lockdowns would be terminated if the virus rate slows in the affected regions and stated that his goal in meeting with the rebbe was to prevent such lockdowns in other cities by promoting public adherence to the regulations.
The rebbe blessed Edelstein for his efforts on behalf of the public to stop the virus from spreading, stating that, “It is a Torah commandment and an obligation to adhere to all of the Health Ministry’s instructions, and especially to wear a mask. Anyone who takes this lightly is endangering others.”
“We have said this from the outset, and we warned that people should not take this lightly and that there is no compromise at all when it comes to protecting people’s lives.”
