Rebuilding Series: A Real Fish Story. By Marshall Lestz
Good Morning Everybody,
I bet you never heard this one before:
Why’d the fish cross the road?
To get to the other side.
I’m not joking! This really happened… Just a few days ago! There are several videos of salmon literally crossing a road outside of Seattle. It’s crazy! Heavy rains created flooding, causing about 8 inches of water to cover a road that runs near a river. The fish got confused and some mistakenly followed the current that was flowing across the road. It’s so bizarre. Cars are literally having to stop so they don’t run over the fish. And then a chicken crosses the road! (Kidding!)
Well, I think this strange event could be a little bit of a “Bitachon Builder” for us, you know, help us build our trust in Hashem.
Sometimes, or a lot of times in life, we want something to go a certain way but we just “know” it’s not gonna work out the way we want. The odds just seem WAY too much against it from happening. So we may feel like we shouldn’t even daven for it because it just seems impossible… just too unlikely. But for
G-d, there is no degree of difficulty that’s too difficult. Everything is equally simple and doable. There’s no “effort” involved for Hashem. But we look at things through our finite eyes and have trouble believing that Hashem can orchestrate the world any way He wants. We may KNOW THIS INTELLECTUALLY, but in our hearts…that might be a different story.
For me, that’s what the fish crossing the road represent. Hashem, with His perfect wisdom, wanted 43 salmon, or however many it was, to be on the other side of the road. Impossible? Sure seems that way to us. But no. G-d brings a little extra rain and has FISH SWIM ACROSS A STREET! We don’t know why. But maybe the fishermen living on the other side of the road needed more fish… Or the ecological needs of that spot required more salmon at this point in time. Who knows?! But Hashem’s in charge, and if He wants fish to be over there, He’s gonna make it happen. And if Hashem is willing to have FISH CROSS A STREET, just imagine what lengths He’ll go for us!
So let’s not put any limits on Hashem. Because when we do, it limits our relationship with Him. Let’s open our minds and hearts and keep praying and leaning on Him for whatever we need. And even if things don’t work out the way we want, our relationship will become that much stronger for it anyway.
Have an “impossibly” awesome day everybody!
Marshall
Keep on Building!
