Concerning the Far North Dallas Eruv Expansion

Close to 25 years ago, our community took a quantum leap forward by constructing an “Eruv”. As many of you already know, an Eruv enables people to come to shul while carrying items, such as house keys, reading glasses, siddurim, tallis bags and food. It also allows people to push baby strollers and carry their children. This creates a higher level of enjoyment of Shabbos.

Over time, wear and tear on the Eruv necessitates more frequent repairs, and also puts the community at risk of having the Eruv be “down” over shabbos. More recently, more and more young Jewish families are seeking to move into our neighborhood, but the shortage of available homes for sale severely limits this influx. Expanding the present Eruv would bring in as many as 1000 more homes into our Eruv.

We want to let you know that the rebuilding and expansion of our Eruv has just begun, and we are excited to see it come to fruition over the next few months. We have a team of professional contractors who have taken on the task of its rebuilding and expansion.

We are writing to you because this project comes with a cost, and we are asking for your support to help cover these expenses. The Eruv is inspected weekly. Building materials need to be purchased, and repairs need to be made. Our present rebuilding and expansion is likely to cost over $125,000. Over the last 25 years, we haven’t asked you for any contributions. But now, a generous donation will allow us to have a better, stronger, and larger Eruv for the entire Far North Dallas Jewish Community. We ask that every Jewish family contribute to this project. Your contribution will be greatly appreciated and will help us ensure the Eruv is completed in a timely manner, so that all members of our community can carry on Shabbos, enriching their Shabbos experience.

Donations are fully tax-deductible. Eruv of Dallas, Inc is a registered 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization.

Donations can be made online at donate.dallaseruv.org. Paper checks are welcome too, and can be made out to: Eruv of Dallas, Inc., 6630 Shell Flower Ln
Dallas, TX 75252-5938

Thank you.
Sincerely,

Rabbi Mendel Dubrawsky, Chabad of Dallas
Rabbi Aryeh Rodin, Congregation Ohev Shalom
Rabbi Yaakov Rich, Congregation Toras Chaim
Rabbi Shlomo Abrams, Jewish Learning Center
Rabbi Zechariah Sionit, Sephardic Torah Center of Dallas
