Rabbi Yitzchak Zilberstein: Vaccine Has The Authority Of Beis Din- And Should Be Taken
BNEI BRAK (VINnews) — Rabbi Yitzchak Zilberstein, a member of the Council of Torah Sages and a world-recognized authority on matters of medicine and Halacha, published Wednesday a halachic ruling stating that people should vaccinate against coronavirus, adding that the vaccine has the authority and validity of Beis Din.
In a letter to Rabbi Moshe Rosengarten, the director of the Chareidi division of the Klalit HMO, Rabbi Zilberstein stressed that the fact that many countries have now chosen to adopt the vaccination gives it the authority of Beis Din, and should be taken even by healthy people based on the imperative of Ve’Rapo Ye’Rapeh, which requires taking medicines even if there is some risk involved.
Rabbi Zilberstein published his ruling after meeting with Prof. Dan Belitzer who leads the Magen Yisrael team involved in the vaccination program, as well as with other prominent doctors. He stressed that most doctors in the world agree that there is no danger involved in the vaccination and added that despite the fact that the experimental stage was brief, since doctors understand how the vaccine works and recommend it, it should be taken.
