![]() Friend — Earlier today, I held a press conference to provide updates on the City of Dallas’s COVID-19 response and how we are planning for the City’s economic recovery. Some important information was provided on when Dallas plans to reopen golf courses, libraries, and other facilities. You can watch the full press conference by clicking on the image below. Check out the latest City of Dallas COVID-19 updates: Confirmed Positive Cases of COVID-19 in North Texas 3,531 in Dallas County (179 are new) & 104 deaths (recovery numbers unknown) 2,246 in Tarrant County (97 are new) & 68 deaths (485 recovered) 765 in Denton County (17 are new) & 21 deaths (367 recovered) 724 in Collin County (14 are new) & 20 deaths (496 recovered) 179 in Ellis County & 6 deaths (109 recovered) 91 in Rockwall County & 2 deaths (recovery numbers unknown) 86 in Kaufman County & 1 death (50 recovered) COVID-19 Dashboard The City of Dallas has created a COVID-19 Dashboard containing data that is updated daily on COVID-19 cases, ventilator and bed capacity, lab tests, demographic information, and other critical data. Hospital Reports Here are the bed and ventilator capacity statistics for today as reported by 25 hospitals in the City of Dallas: Total beds: 5,709 Beds occupied: 3,366 (59%) Total ICU beds: 827 ICU beds occupied: 550 (67%) Total ventilators: 943 Ventilators in use: 330 (35%) COVID-19 Lab Reports Below are the COVID-19 testing numbers reported to the City of Dallas today: 678 COVID-19 tests 100 positive 578 negative Testing numbers from labs to date Total tests to date by Dallas County Health and Human Services 2,345 Total tests to date private labs* 15,960 Total negative tests to date* 15,093 *Numbers since March 13, 2020, the date the order requiring public and private labs in Dallas to report their COVID-19 tests went into effect. Note: these numbers DO NOT include the community-based testing site numbers since those tests are conducted in a lab not in the City of Dallas. Community-Based Testing Sites The numbers reported from the two community-based testing sites and mobile testing units for April 28 are as follows: American Airlines Center, Ellis Davis Field House, and Mobile Testing Total number of visitors today: 1,048 Total tested today: 1,000 Total number of visitors since the sites opened: 23,320 Total number of tests since the sites opened: 18,117 Demographic information on those who visited the test sites and a breakdown of the number of people who visited each site or received mobile testing can be found here. City of Dallas Updates Join Mayor Johnson every Thursday for a citywide ovation for workers on the front lines during the COVID-19 pandemic. All residents are asked to step outside their front doors or patios at 7 p.m. and cheer for health care workers, police officers, firefighters, park rangers, code officers, workers providing essential services, and all others who are helping the City of Dallas respond to the spread of the coronavirus. The guide for the Rental and Mortgage Assistance Program and the Small Business Continuity Fund is currently being updated and the final version will be made available soon in English as well as Spanish. Both programs will launch on May 4, 2020 at www.DallasCityHall.com. More information regarding the City’s new Small Business Continuity Fund, a program to help small businesses in Dallas, has been posted on the City’s webpage. The webpage, which can be accessed by clicking on the image below, provides information on how to apply, an overview of the fund, details on eligibility requirements, and a document with frequently asked questions. The Office of Economic Development will accept applications for the program beginning May 4, 2020. For questions, please email [email protected]. The City of Dallas announced today: City of Dallas golf courses, tennis facilities, Elm Fork range and some outdoor fee-based programs will resume public operations with specific facility and usage restrictions on May 1. Dallas Park and Recreation operates six 18-hole golf courses, five full-service tennis centers and the Elm Fork Range. Fee-based recreational activities take place at parks located throughout The department’s phased approach to reopening select recreational facilities extends to tennis courts located in city parks in which only singles play will be allowed. Facilities and outdoor programs set to reopen will adhere to strict physical distancing as well as safe, sanitary protocols. Learn more about this announcement and the usage restrictions here. Updates from Dallas County Dallas County Health and Human Services is reporting 179 new cases of COVID-19 today, bringing the total case count in Dallas County to 3,531, with 104 total deaths to date. Of cases requiring hospitalization who reported employment, about 79% have been critical infrastructure workers, with a broad range of affected occupational sectors, including: healthcare, transportation, food and agriculture, public works, finance, communications, clergy, first responders and other essential functions. Of cases requiring hospitalization, most have been either over 60 years of age or have had at least one known high-risk chronic health condition. Diabetes has been an underlying high-risk health condition reported in about a third of all hospitalized patients with COVID-19. Of the 104 total deaths reported to date, about 40% have been associated with long-term care facilities. Please see the latest summary report for more information (updated on 4/28). The report contains race/ethnicity information on the confirmed tests and deaths and important information comparing influenza ICU admissions and hospitalizations and COVID-19 ICU admissions and hospitalizations. Updates from Collin County There are 14 new cases (net) of COVID-19 in Collin County today, as of 3:30 p.m. There are 208 current cases of COVID-19 in Collin County (total cases minus recovered and deceased). There have been 724 total confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 in Collin County. 496 people have successfully recovered; 28 are hospitalized; 180 remain in home isolation. There have been 20 confirmed deaths associated with COVID-19 in Collin County. There have been 7,517 negative COVID-19 tests in Collin County. There are 1,160 Persons Under Monitoring (PUM) in Collin County. Updates from Denton County Denton County Public Health (DCPH) has announced one additional Denton County resident has died as a result of COVID-19, bringing the total to 21 deaths due to COVID-19 in Denton County. The patient, a male resident of Denton Rehabilitation Center over 80, was a previously reported hospital isolated, contact transmission COVID-19 case in Denton County. DCPH is also announcing 17 new laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Denton County. This increases the cumulative, countywide total to 765 confirmed COVID-19 cases. DCPH is also announcing 4 newly recovered COVID-19 cases within the county. The laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 Denton State Supported Living Center (DSSLC) resident total remains 54. The cumulative, countywide long-term care facility (LTCF) resident total remains 19. Staff who test positive for COVID-19 from DSSLC and over 100 LTCFs in Denton County are included within the totals for the town, city, unincorporated area, and/or county in which the staff person resides. DCPH is providing a free drive-thru testing center for community members who have experienced COVID-19 symptoms within the previous 7 days. The testing center will be held at 535 S. Loop 288 in Denton from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. on Saturday, May 2, 2020. Community members must call to pre-register for free testing at 940-349-2585. Updates from the State Governor Abbott recently held a press conference and released a report sharing his plan to reopen the Texas economy beginning tomorrow. The Governor’s report to reopen Texas includes details on a long-term care COVID-19 mitigation plan, steps to increase testing, health protocols, and more. He issued three new executive orders (GA-18, GA-19, and GA-20). Learn more about the plan here. ![]() ![]() Walgreens Testing Site Walgreens opened a drive-thru testing site in southern Dallas at 2060 South Buckner Boulevard. Pre-registration is required to get tested at this location. To receive a test, individuals must first complete an online health assessment to determine eligibility. After the test, patients will be informed of results within 24 hours. To find out more information and to sign up to get tested, click on the image below. Some other community partners will be announcing new testing sites soon. More information, once we are able to announce, will be provided next week. Dallas Resident Resource Guides There are a number of resources available to residents and businesses impacted by the emergency regulations that have been put in place to slow the spread of COVID-19. The City of Dallas has created a Resident Resource Guide with information on: Rental assistance; Filing for unemployment; Connecting displaced workers to jobs; Food assistance; Help paying utilities (note: most utility disconnections have been halted during this time); Mental health resources; Business loan information; and Other key resources. The guide is available in both English and Spanish: COVID-19 Resident Resource Guide_April 17 COVID-19 Guia de Recursos para Residentes_17 de Abril COVID-19 Resource Hotline The City of Dallas has launched a COVID-19 resource hotline. The hotline offers information in Spanish and English 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The number is 214-670-INFO (4636). Dallas Regional Chamber Resources The Dallas Regional Chamber has set up a site for additional resources for residents and businesses, including information on various state and federal programs. United Way Resource Guides United Way of Metropolitan Dallas has put together a list of resources available to Dallas area residents in English and Spanish. Resources include the North Texas Food Bank’s open food pantries, tax filing information, and job opportunities. Senior Source Resources This is the link to the Senior Source’s COVID-19 resource guide. The guide includes information for seniors, including information on specific grocery store hours dedicated to seniors, and guidance for those who are caring for seniors during the pandemic.
